American Idol Shying Away from Funny Auditions?
In an article detailing changes to this season of American Idol, the Yahoo! TV Blog reported that American Idol would have "fewer trainwrecks", with less of the hilarious Idle Idols we love so much:
In an effort to bring some more "credibility" to the show, fewer freaks (Mary Roach), delusional dorks (Michael Sandecki), and hot messes (William Hung) will be featured during the auditions.
We'll just have to wait and see about how little of these Idle Idols we will see during this season's audition episodes.
The audition episodes have always carried a large viewership, and I think they owe it to these funny (sometimes intentional, somtimes not) auditions.
I suspect that the producers will include just as many Idle Idols in the audition episodes and simply claim that there are less. And if there really are less funny auditions this year, expect to see them storming back for American Idol 9 after the audition show's ratings drop.
