Alberto had a lot of "unique" ideas about singing and about American Idol: "To me, singing is like the ultimate revealing of my soul, and I've always been too scared to do that. Not even my own mother has heard my singing voice. I get my inspiration from my imagination. Sometimes, I just get so lost in my imaginations that I kind of live there . . . um, maybe a little too much."
Alberto walked in with a large fan, at least three feet wide, that said "A BIG American Idol fan." With a flourish, he pulled it down and pulled out a smaller fan that said "Hey Paula."
Alberto sang his own autobiographical song titled Live. He sang so softly that Randy had to cup his hand to his ear.
Simon cut Alberto off and complained that it was the most depressing song he had ever heard. Alberto assured him that it had a happy ending, but Simon still complained that the "happy ending" sounded gloomy when Alberto sang it.
On his way out, he gave the Paula fan to Paula, who complimented him on his way out.

Sarah sang the fast-talking lyrics from Gwen Stefani's The Sweet Escape, however she didn't keep the rhythm of the song and she didn't know all the words, either. Instead of sounding like Gwen Stefani, she sounded more like an excited four year old rambling about something you can't decipher.
Randy asked her, "You ever hear of a guy named William Hung?" Sarah called that the biggest insult ever.

If Blake Boshnack looks familiar, that's because we saw him very briefly in season 5, dressed as the Statue of Liberty.
In fact, Blake had auditioned ten times before San Diego!
Blake sang Ben E. King's Stand By Me — You know how they say the eleventh time's the charm? Neither did the judges. Blake didn't pass through to Hollywood, but I have a feeling that we haven't seen the last of Blake Boshnack.

Samantha and her sister Michelle both have a Simon obsession, which deeply disturbed Ryan.
As Samantha entered the audition room, Michelle threw a paper airplane into the room and onto the stage. Randy asked what it was, and Samantha explained that it was a note for Simon.
Simon read the note aloud: "Dear Simon, please let me in. Please, please, please. You're on my list of who I want to meet, along with who I want to meet along with Oprah and Obama."
Upon reading the note, Simon invited Michelle to join the panel, and she quickly accepted and shared Simon's chair with him.
Samantha sang Aretha Franklin's Until You Come Back to Me in front of this modified four judge panel. She got a unanimous vote to pass her through to Hollywood. In celebration, Samantha and her sister gave Simon a group hug.

As soon as Monique stepped onto the stage, Simon noted that it looked like three separate people dressed her that day: "It's like, 'I'll do the lingerie,' 'I'll do the top,' and 'I'll do the boots,'" prompting Randy to exclaim, "Lingerie?!?" Monique admitted to having put the outfit together herself.
Whitney Houston's "I Believe in Miracles" (which is actually titled I Believe In You & Me). Simon assured her that not one word of the chorus would happen.
Monique said, "OK," but then broke into Mariah Carey's Fantasy.
Simon replied with, "I'm not getting through to you, am I?"
Monique muttered that there had to be something, so then she broke into yet another song, but Simon persisted.
This time, instead of breaking into another song, Monique broke into tears, insisting that she had just chosen the wrong song. She promised she'd be back to try again.
Given her audition, it looks like she picked the wrong three songs.

Joseph sang Justin Guarini's Get Here in a serious tone, so if you weren't looking at your television screen, you'd think it was just another mediocre American Idol audition. What you wouldn't know, however, is that Joseph was dressed in a sombrero and poncho, with Juanita performing as a mime alongside him. Juanita mimed an airplane while he sang that line, and even did some freaky "my brains are falling out of my head" motion during "you can reach me with your mind."
During the performance, Simon rubbed his eyes. Randy shook his head and Simon said, "Sorry." Joseph and Juanita made their way out with smiles on their faces.
Joseph and Juanita were also pictured in episode 5 (Omaha) as one of the squares in the "You Forgot the Lyrics" title screen, though they weren't shown as having forgotten their lyrics at all.
