This year, Ben sang Elton John's Crocodile Rock, though he changed the lyric to "Me and Paula had so much fun." Simon wouldn't have any of that, and that was the end of Ben's audition this year.

Corliss and Brittany sometimes claim to be sisters because they share so many similar interests — except that Brittney likes skinny men and Corliss likes her men "beefy."
Corliss told Randy that Ryan wasn't his type. She then sang, "I want you, baby," to Randy, which put a huge grin on Randy's face. Simon encouraged Corliss to sing her song directly to Randy, and Simon and Paula moved to the side. Corliss impressed the judges with a jazz tune: Al Jarreau's Take Five.
Brittany took the audition stage and sang Mary Wells' My Guy to Simon.
All three judges agreed to pass both Corliss and Brittany on through to Hollywood. Once they had gotten the good news, Paula invited them both to come plant kisses on Simon and Randy, and the girls happily obliged.

Ghaleb is a Venezuelan who describes his singing style as "passionate." He plays the guitar, harmonica, and piano.
Ghaleb sang Marc Anthony's You Sang To Me and did a decent job.
Simon told Ghaleb that he'd only like him while he was drunk. Paula said that his accent was a bit of an obstacle, but that she liked the tone of his voice. Paula refused to make a decision as Simon hounded her with the continual "Yes or no?" question. While she thought, Randy gave Ghaleb a "yes" vote based on the quality of his voice.
Finally, frustrated by Simon, Paula gave Ghaleb a hug and congratulated him on making it through to Hollywood, so long as he would work on his accent.
Ghaleb celebrated by kissing everyone on the American Idol staff he could find on his way out of the audition hall.

Shannon McGough (pronounced "McGoff") works in her parents' meat shop, Dan's Meat Market. She is also gifted with the ability to belch very loudly on demand.
Shannon's mother pointed out various pictures in their store, including awards and pictures of her winning female vocalist of the year in the 7-12 age group, Okeechobee Idol, and South Florida Idol.
Shannon was dressed like a 1980s pop star, almost along the lines of Cyndi Lauper.
Shannon sang Janis Joplin's Cry Baby, but despite her awards, she sang with absolutely no melody whatsoever. Simon was not impressed, and all three judges were confused. Despite Simon urging her not to sing more, Shannon slipped into Aretha Franklin's Chain of Fools.
Shannon insisted that no one had ever told her that she couldn't sing, but now she has.

Johnny came into the audition wearing a sparkling gold jacket.
Johnny sang Otis Day and the Knights' Shout, complete with dance moves involving kicking his heels up and tapping quickly back and forth from one heel to the other and waving his arms.
Simon told Johnny that his audition was everything he hated, including his jacket, singing and dancing. Johnny told the judges that he wasn't sure what they were looking for exactly, but that's how he performs.

Sarah Whitaker is a former wrestler. In the ring, she was better known as Lady Morgue. Sarah wore eyeliner that thickly lined her eyes, jutted upward along the edge of her nose, and then traced her eyebrows.
Sarah admitted that one of her greatest trademarks in the ring was her laugh: A shrill scream followed by the laugh from the opening of The Surfaris' Wipe Out.
Pre-audition, Sarah gave Ryan a "light tap," which sent him backward a step in shock.
Sarah sang Tiny Tim's Living in the Sunlight, Loving in the Moonlight. Simon described the "strange" audition as the soundtrack for Omaha. Nonetheless, Paula gave Sarah a "yes" vote, but Randy and Simon turned her down.
After the audition, Ryan came in to find out what was wrong with Sarah, and the judges forced Ryan to sit in and judge the next contestant (Samantha Sidley, contestant #37491) since he was interfering. Paula did the interview while Ryan was busy judging.

Chris is an effervescent American Idol fan. He loves the show so much and was so excited about auditioning that he choked up when he was telling Simon and Randy about his enthusiasm.
In his pre-audition interview, Chris said, "Today I'm so happy I feel like I could explode and happiness is gonna go flying everywhere." He continued by noting that his audition day was "the biggest, life alternating change in my life."
Chris brought gifts for the judges — a large stuffed animal dog for Randy, an England sweatshirt for Simon, and a small stuffed animal cat for Paula. Since Paula's flight was delayed and she wasn't there, Simon quickly tossed Paula's gift on the floor and asked Chris if he couldn't have just brought them money instead.
Chris showed Simon a photo album of him and Kelly Clarkston, so it was only fitting that he chose to sing Kelly's Since You've Gone. During his butchered rendition, Chris also did an awkward turn followed by an unsteady handstand.
Simon let Chris down easy but firmly told him that his singing wasn't good enough. Chris asked if he could audition to be one of American Idol's red carpet announcers. For this portion of the audition, he anemically announced, "Welcome America to the season finale of American Idol. You have been with us from the first note and now America you decide with your final vote."
Simon asked him what the local Fox affiliate was. Chris told him that it was Fox 42 (KPTM). Simon told Chris to tell Fox 42 to let him report at American Idol for that affiliate, and if they gave him trouble to have them call the American Idol producers up.
So, it looks like we haven't seen the last of Chris Bernheisel — or at least, Omaha television hasn't seen the last of him.

Michelle Lampkin wore a fairly normal outfit, but Jeffery's outfit had plenty of meaning behind it: Jeffery wore a black and pink striped tie around his head as a tribute to Paula; sportswear and loafers for Randy; and dog tags in honor of Simon's "military presence."
Before their audition, Michelle and Jeffery sang "bom-chicka-wah-wah," followed by other raucous ad libbing. They were loud and obnoxious, yet in a fun way.
Michelle and Jeffery sang R. Kelly and Celine Dion's I'm Your Angel. They gave a decent performance. The judges were more impressed with Jeffery's voice. Randy said yes to Jeffery, but no to Michelle. Paula and Simon gave them both approval, so Michelle and Jeffery are both headed to Hollywood.
Upon getting passed through, Jeffery did a little stomping tap dance on the stage. Jeffery ran out of the audition room screaming and jumping up and down.
In this rare set of circumstances, two performers sang together and were passed through to Hollywood without having to sing separately.

Randy and Crystal met in the AmericanIdol.com message boards, where Randy gives advice and information to people about the auditioning process.
Randy started poorly singing Andy Griggs' She's More and Crystal joined in.
The judges told the couple that their singing wasn't even close, but that they were happy they had met each other.
Crystal asked if she should continue to sing at family functions, and Simon admitted that, if he were in her family, he would have asked her to stop.

DeAnna is from Kelly Pickler's hometown of Albemarle, North Carolina.
DeAnna is a waitress, and she told Simon that her least favorite crowd was the "all you can eat" Sunday crowd that keeps ordering plate after plate of food, making the waitresses run back and forth to deliver the food.
DeAnna sang Reba Mcentire's Fancy. Throughout the song, she sang very loudly and with an almost angry expression on her face.
Simon told her to stop and called her "Deana" (dee-nah) and DeAnna immediately corrected him: "De-Anna. That's why I spell my name with a capital A, just to eliminate the whole Deana. It's De-Anna."
Simon mentioned that the performance was a bit angry, and DeAnna said that the song was supposed to be angry. Simon suggested that perhaps it was the "annoying" restaurant-goers who annoyed her.
Before her audition, DeAnna said, "If I don't sound any better than Kelly Pickler, I really don't want to be here." Be careful what you wish for . . .
