Brenna claims to be the biggest American Idol fan, and she seems to think that this is grounds for winning American Idol.

Brenna's favorite Idol is Ace Young. She says she met him twice and that he drew a tattoo for her. She lifted her sleeve to show a heart on her arm.

Brenna sang Freddie Mercury and David Bowie's Under Pressure and started out by singing "Why" for 14 seconds.

After Brenna wondered why she hadn't been told ten years earlier that she couldn't sing, Simon said, "I'll tell you why, Brenda: Because I wasn't your teacher."

Jason was described as a triple threat — juggling sticks, dancing, and singing. Why does Jason want to go to Hollywood, though? He explains: "I'm looking forward to going to Hollywood because I've never been there before and also I know all the famous people that I know have performed there and I want to be just like them."

In his audition, Jason sang Michael W. Smith's Somebody Love Me while juggling one stick, not even as impressive as the mediocre juggling we saw him doing out in the waiting room previously. Jason didn't make it through to Hollywood, but Randy, Jewel, and Paula suggested that Jason really should be auditioning for America's Got Talent.

Just when we thought that singing was his worst talent, he offered up a dance for the judges as well. Simon quickly dismissed it and noted, "That was terrible as well."

Jason burst out of the room with a profanity-ridden rant about the judges. Ryan tried to console him by explaining that maybe it's just not singing that he should be doing, but Jason insisted that juggling was his entertainment, but singing was his life.

Stephen Horst is a vocal teacher. What advice does Stephen give his students before a big audition? "To relax and to focus at the same time — to commit to what you're about to do — to live in the moment. That's all I want to do is just to live in the moment, to face the task, to tell the story — tell the story. That's what I tell — to tell the story.

Stephen sang Aerosmith's I Don't Want to Miss a Thing, including a few notes of falsetto.

Randy was harsh toward Stephen because his singing was not great, despite the fact that he's a vocal coach. After Randy said "No," Stephen got defensive over his singing and asked Randy for his honest opinion. Randy said that he would not tell anyone to go to Stephen for vocal lessons and suggested that he give all his students their money back.

Simon egged Stephen on by asking him if he was going to take that from Randy. With Simon empowering him, Stephen got a boost of confidence in himself and aggressively asked Randy why he was being so harsh on him, forcing Randy to continue ragging on Stephen.

Simon pretended to take the high ground during this audition, acting "amazed at Randy's rudeness and audacity."

Trista is a big fan of The Wizard of Oz. She even brought a poster of herself walking down the yellow brick road to Hollywood with the phrase "Randy & Paula & Simon — Oh my!"

Ryan got Trista to do her Cowardly Lion impression, which sounded more like Chewbacca than anything else. Naturally, Trista sang If I Were the King of the Forest, complete with the Cowardly Lion's growls.

Trista offered the poster to the judges, who quickly declined.

During the Kiss montage later in the episode, she somehow managed to slip the Cowardly Lion growl into a Prince song.

Alex made a warbling sound as he guided an imaginary spacecraft down to the judges' table. After a brief mechanical drilling sound, the spacecraft split open like an egg and Alex's other hand popped out. The new hatchling said "Hi" to the judges, giggled, and started to sing.

Simon quickly cut him off and thanked him.

Thanks for the entertainment, Alex, but we never even found out your last name.

Update: More of Alex's footage is shown again in episode 7 (the San Antonio auditions) during a segment devoted to contestants trying to go through the closed door. Alex says "Thank you very much" and tries to push both doors open together. After failing at that, he focuses on the locked door while the judges tell him to use the other door. Alex then leans on the open door and opens it up.

Matthew wanted to distinguish himself from any of the American Idol winners: "Carrie Underwood was there, but, you know, even she didn't have the look I have." Matthew wore a cowboy outfit, complete with a cowboy hat that had a chinstrap hanging down below his chest. I wonder how jealous Carrie is. Randy inquired if Matthew had just bought the outfit, but Matthew claimed to have had it "for a couple years."

Matt describes himself as "more like Johnny Cash — the older country." In this tradition, he sang Folsom Prison Blues in the lowest voice he could muster — well below his range. For someone describing himself as having "flair" and "pizazz," Matthew gave a monotone, too-low Johnny Cash performance.

Matthew told the judges that he sang country because he "can't sing the other stuff," but they were quick to point out that he couldn't really sing country, either. Simon categorized the audition as "pointless" and Randy described it as "just awful."

Matt appears again during the Kiss montage. In the same, low voice, he sings "You don't need experience to turn me out," looking even more uncomfortable than before.

Randy asked Tashawn about her tie, and she explained, "Well, actually, I think that it says 'Dress to Impress' and I think a tie would do just my justice." We then see a confused, open mouthed Simon staring back at Tashawn.

Tashawn chose to sing Prince's Kiss. She got off to a bad start by singing "Women no girls" instead of "Women not girls," but things would get much worse. For literally two and a half minutes, Tashawn stuttered and stammered her way through incorrect lyrics and awkward pauses. After finally getting two lines right ("U dont have 2 watch dynasty / 2 have an attitude"), Tashawn sang "I just want to strut" and mentioned "intercompatibility," whatever that might be.

Monroe claimed to be dressed as Apollo Creed from the Rocky movies, but he looked more like a cartoonish boxing Uncle Sam character.

Monroe dressed like Apollo because he wanted to knock out this audition, but Simon was annoyed because Monroe's choice of song, an Italian aria, didn't fit with his outfit. He said "You're singing opera dressed as Apollo Creed with a weird hat on and boxing gloves. I'm gonna say 'No.'"

It looks like Apollo has died yet again.

When Simon asked Jesse why he thought he could win American Idol, he responded, "because I have a unique vocal range and I have my passion for music is like I think the far the best and what most I've seen out here because I'm in music because I feel music expresses itself other than most people just into it for the glitz and glamour when it's in my heart and–"
Thinking that Jesse was done, Simon cut him off and said, "Okay, I couldn't understand a word of that."

Jesse felt that he could hit some notes that Mariah Carey could hit, which is always an indication that you're in for a classic Idle Idol audition.

In the middle of Jesse's rendition of My Heart Will Go On, he cut himself off and excused himself to go get a glass of water because he was so nervous. Simon suggested that they just end his audition like that, but Jesse quickly returned after getting a drink and immediately started singing again. Simon asked him why he had bothered coming back into the room.

During the Kiss montage later in the episode, we see Jesse singing "You don't have to be rich to be my girl" as he switches keys, has his voice break, and then suffers an awkward pause.

Troy claims that "the new style is 'Urban Amish.'" Apparently, Urban Amish consists of a suit and tie, an Amish beard, a sort of cowboy hat, and rose colored sunglasses.

Troy went into the audition without a plan and not having seen American Idol before. He sang Bob and Tom's You Can Be Mean To Me to a disgusted Simon and a confused Randy.
