Angie respects Lady Gaga's performance style and also likes to make everything she does a performance.

In front of the judges, Angie sang When You Got It, Flaunt It from The Producers. During the performance Angie strutted around the stage and then loudly dropped down hard onto her knees, prompting Randy to react with, "Ow!". Angie then squirmed around the stage a bit, singing and out of breath from the physical performance. Angie apologized that she didn't get down more because her tight dress was too restricting.

Jennifer was impressed by the performance but Randy is turned off by showtunes because they tend to bring out that type of vibratto that he doesn't like. Angie offered to sing something that wasn't a showtune but Randy said he was good. Jennifer pushed for her to sing something else so Angie sang the Linda Ronstadt version of Blue Bayou. Randy admitted that the song changed his mind and Angie was passed on to Hollywood.

Jenni describes herself as "overly energetic, to the point where people have to tell me to stop." This point is proven as we see her mauling some guy's head with her hands and then walking backwards while making the obnoxious "BEEP-BEEP-BEEP" construction vehicle noise.

The 24-year-old music teacher from Sterling, VA mentions that her least favorite part of the job is teaching the recorder because "30 recorders in one room with beginning recorder players makes me want to vomit."

Jenni admitted that she has three celebrities on her "celebrity pass list" (for kissing):

1. Steven Tyler
2. Lady Gaga
3. Adam Levine

So clearly the focus was to take the Idol auditions as a great excuse to kiss Steven. As soon as she got in the audition room, Jenni turned on the flirtatious act and explained her arrangement to the judges. Steven told her that she better sing well.

For her audition Jenni sang Pat Benetar's Heartbreaker and did well enough to get a unanimous vote through to Hollywood. She walked over to Steven, who gave her a full-on kiss on the lips. She reacted by screaming with glee and jumping up and down. It's hard to say whether she was more excited about Hollywood or Steven's lips.

Samantha came to audition for American Idol and she brought along her sister Patricia, a.k.a. Patty the Pittsburgh Planker. The sisters agreed that Samantha sang better when Patty was planking.

Ryan got down on the floor to plank but put his arms up in the air in front of him as well, Superman style instead of planking style (arms at the side).

Before Samantha sang Faith Hill's Like We Never Loved At All, Patty got down on the stage to plank. Apparently unaware of the rules of planking, Steven asked her how long she could hold that position for. Of course, he received no response from Patty. She held the proper form for the entire singing portion of the audition but did collapse for the judges once Samantha finished singing.

The judges enjoyed Samantha's voice enough to pass her on to Hollywood. We didn't hear the judges discussing Patricia's fate, however when they emerged they both held golden tickets, so it looks like Samantha will have her lucky plank with her in Hollywood!

American Idol kicked off in Pittsburgh by showing us Heejun Han's complete boredom while he was sitting in the waiting room outside the auditioning area. When asked in the pre-audition interview why he was there, he simply replied, "I don't know." When asked if he had what it took to be the next American Idol, he also answered, "I don't know," and revealed that he felt he was good until he heard some of the other auditioning talent.

Heejun (pronounced hee-joon) then interviewed with Ryan Seacrest and told Ryan that his face was as small as a fist, especially compared to his own face. Ryan said that their faces seemed to be of similar size and moved in to show how different their face sizes were or weren't, but Heejun backed away and said, "No, it's just — comparison's too much."

In the audition room, Heejun said the entire experience was unreal and likened the judges to being at a wax museum. Randy tried to turn that comment into a compliment about them being supermodels but Heejun only conceded that Jennifer was of supermodel quality. He tried to take the comment back and simultaneously tried to expelled some nervous energy by raising his arms and flapping his hands. Jennifer and Randy mimicked him and told him he couldn't take it back.

Outside the room, Ryan asked his friends and family about how he sang and discovered that they hadn't heard him sing before. (This is often a clue that the auditioner has no singing experience and is about to bomb.)

Heejun started singing Michael Bolton's How Am I Supposed to Live Without You and Steven reared his head back, startled — not because Heejun's act was a joke, but because he had what Jennifer would call "a beautiful voice". Needless to say, he was unanimously passed through to Hollywood.

Seventeen-year-old David Leathers, Jr. is a self-proclaimed ladies man. In fact, he says his nickname is "Mr. Steal Your Girl". We see David talking to an older girl (Fatia) and he hands his phone over to her so she can punch in her phone number in his contacts list.

David also revealed that in 2009 he was in a local competition with Scotty McCreery and claims to have won. Seacrest tries to clarify whether he beat Scotty or not and David has a big grin and replies with a vague, "You could say that," leading us to wonder if he's lying about winning and whether he has any singing talent at all.

In his audition David sang Remember the Rain? by Century 21. The judges enjoy his singing and he reminds them so much of a young Michael Jackson that they ask him to sing a Jackson song. David obliges by singing Never Can Say Goodbye.

The judges passed David on to Hollywood by simultaneously yelling "YES!"

The day they met, Rob asked Chelsee onto the stage to sing with him. From there, they continued their career together and moved in together, but since then the couple has split. Rob mentioned that they had continued to live together after they had broke up. Ryan asked Chelsee if she dated people while the two were still living together and she admitted she had. Ryan's response was to give Rob a hug and tell Chelsee: "That's so uncool!" Ryan later asked them, "Are you friends?" to which Rob replied, "Uhh, at this point, not really but it'll . . . in time it'll work out."

After they went into the audition room, Ryan asked Chelsee's current boyfriend, Josh McClintock, if he was the reason for the breakup. Josh clarified that he didn't cause the breakup and that he didn't know Rob before and didn't really know him now.

In the audition room, Jennifer quickly jumped on the topic, calling herself a hopeless romantic and trying to find out if there was any way they might get back together. She even tried to enlist Steven's help. Together, the pair sang The Bee Gees' To Love Somebody and the judges couldn't stand how well they sang that romantic song together. Steven started talking about how the deepest passion comes from friction and that he could see how in love they were.

The two then sang separately for their own auditions: Rob sang Marvin Gaye's What's Going On and Chelsee came up and sang Brandi Carlile's The Story. The judges commented that they sang beautifully both separately and together. They were both passed through to Hollywood. After they left, Jennifer whispered that they were going to get back together.

The two came out and Chelsee was greeted by her throng of relatives (and boyfriend) while Rob had Ryan's hand to shake. After a moment, Ryan goaded Josh into congratulating his girlfriend's ex on his success as well. Yes, I can imagine how thrilled he was to know that his GF was heading to Hollywood with her ex without him.

Once the group left, Ryan heaved a sigh of relief and sent the show to break.

Tiffany started out by demonstrating for America "the typical Jersey hairdo." (Step one is that "you need your teaser brush with you at all times.")

As a Puerto Rican dance instructor, she admires Jennifer Lopez because she "made the mark that you don't have to be a stick figure to be gorgeous." Tiffany got choked up when she got in front of Jennifer, so Jennifer came out front and gave her a nice, long hug.

Tiffany chose to show off her Puerto Rican accents by wearing two strategically placed silver stars on her shirt.

Tiffany sang an original song that she made just for American Idol:

Oh, baby they need me
America needs
America needs me
for higher ratings on TV

After that song, Steven had to ask, "What's with the jujubes on your ooh-ooh-bees?"

Tiffany sang a second song but closed her jacket again because the song was "more emotional". She sang Celine Dion's I'm Your Lady and received three Yes votes based on that performance, putting her through to Hollywood. Tiffany got down on her hands and knees and excitedly kicked her shoes on the ground, prompting Randy to clarify, "Yes to the singing!"

Lloyd "Big SuccSexy" Thomas is a big personality. We first see him doing the robot and repeating his nickname, a hybrid of "success" and "sexy". As he pulled out photographs of his daughters from his wallet, one of them fell on the floor as the camera zoomed in. Lloyd asked if they would cut that part out.

Lloyd is a dock worker at an airport and says that "the worst part about my job that I have is . . . probably the job that I have."

In the audition room, Lloyd sang Stevie Wonder's Overjoyed and did a great job — even Simon called it the best audition of the day. Neil Patrick Harris suggested that Lloyd work some of that personality into his performance.

At the outset of his audition, Cornelius told the judges that he could dance and that he had learned from his friends who are "adult entertainers" and who "dance for money". Cornelius sang Tina Turner's Proud Mary (Rolling on the River). During the chorus, he jumped high into the air and landed in a split, hitting his legs and knee hard into the stage, but Cornelius kept on singing . . . until he went to get up, that is. That's when he informed the judges, "My pants done ripped."

Simon said that Cornelius deserved to go to Hollywood. Cornelius said that he had some more moves and Simon quickly replied, "I don't want you to move at all right now!"

Cornelius got a unanimous Yes from the judges, along with encouragement to go buy some new pants.

Randy asked Jay if he could sing, so Jay started singing Bill Withers' Ain't No Sunshine. While he sang, Kara and Randy started beatboxing under him, and eventually Jay started dancing to the judges' beats. As soon as he finished, Randy said, "So it's a No," but Kara protested.

Jay told the judges that no one else did what he did on American Idol. The judges brought up beatboxing Blake Lewis, but Jay said that Blake didn't sing and beatbox simultaneously. Kara continued to argue until Randy finally gave him the second Yes vote.

Keep your eyes and ears out for some beatboxing in Hollywood week!

Skii Bo Ski wore an interesting haircut to his audition — the American Idol logo was shaved into his hair.

Pointing to his shirt, he spelled his nickname out: "S – k – i – i -b- o, S – k -i". The producer pointed out that his shirt had "Skibo Ski" with only one "i" on the first name. He simply responded, "OK, we got — misprint." When his name later comes up during the audition, we see that it's not even "Skiibo Ski" but "Skii Bo Ski" . . . so there is a missing space as well.

Antonio gave it his all when he sang Marvin Gaye's I Heard It Through The Grapevine. Kara was grooving to the music and Mary J. Blige started clapping when he finished.

After he finished singing, Skii Bo Ski told the judges, "It's a package deal because I'm like the dollar store. You know, with the dollar store — even with the dollar store, you can have everything you want in that one package and it don't cost you no more than a dollar. I'm worth a lot."

Randy countered with, "That doesn't even make sense, what you were just saying," and Kara noted that he said he was only worth a dollar.

Antonio got a No vote from Simon and a Yes vote from Mary and Kara. Antonia cut Randy off with: "And before you speak, acknowledge that I am acknowledging good music and you made some."

Randy looked completely confused by Skii Bo Ski's ramblings and replied, "What in the world are you saying?!? Shut up! You're through to Hollywood! What is all of this nonsense? My God!"

Skii Bo Ski ran into the waiting room with his golden ticket and the crowd erupted into cheers. Based on some of Randy's advice, it looks like we'll see more Antonio Wheeler than Skii Bo Ski once he gets to Hollywood, but you never know!

Holly, better known to you and me as "Guitar Girl", dressed as a guitar for Halloween. Her friends thought the outfit was so cute that Holly figured she would wear the costume to her American Idol audition. The costume was highlighted by some very large guitar sunglasses.

Holly sang Loretta Lynn's You Ain't Woman Enough to Take My Man. After she finished singing, Simon asked Holly, "Do you understand how — you can keep [the guitar glasses] on — how slightly bizarre this is that you're dressed as a guitar but also look a little bit like an insect singing country and western?"

Mary J Blige's comment was simple: "I don't get it," but Kara said she respected that Holly was ballsy enough to go dressed like that. Holly received 3 Yes votes and will be moving on to Hollywood. I doubt we will see the guitar outfit again, though.

Joshua came in and sang Rascal Flatts' Bless the Broken Road. He got some compliments, but Simon complained that Josh sounded more like a 14 year old: "No presence, no power, no originality".

Victoria Beckham asked him if he was maybe playing it a little bit safe for the audition and Joshua admitted that he had been told that he needed to be more assertive. Randy jumped right in and gave Joshua some impromptu assertiveness training by instructing him to shout, "Simon, shut up!"

Joshua timidly repeated, "Simon, . . . shut up, please" and gave Simon a look of apology. He then repeated the line with a bit more force but was unable to wow Simon with his attempts at disapprobation.

Randy suggested that he instead singing in a group of the same type as Spandau Ballet, but Joshua did not like that idea at all. Simon encouraged him to forcefully tell Randy that he was wrong about that suggestion, but Joshua couldn't do it.

Finally the judges voted and unanimously passed Joshua through to Hollywood. Once he had that news, Randy tried to pump him up by having him repeat the phrases, "I'm gonna be great," "I am great," "I am the American Idol," and "I'm somebody." Randy had Joshua also repeat the phrase "Ain't nobody gonna beat my A." but then said that sounded a little weird coming from Joshua.

When we first see Tyler, he is doing a bit of a goofy dance and we can see that he has a cast on each wrist. The reason for the casts is that Tyler recently fell out of a tree and shattered both his wrists, necessitating some surgery where titanium plates were inserted into his arms.

Shattering his wrists didn't help Tyler's drumming career much, but he claims that he prefers to be the front man and decided to audition for American Idol to help that dream come true.

Despite the injuries to his hands, Tyler came out and sang Marvin Gaye's Let's Get It On. The judges loved his look, his demeanor, and his voice, so Tyler was passed through to Hollywood with four Yes votes.

Katrina sang Faith Hill's Breathe. Kara and Paula complained that her voice thinned out as she progressed through the song. Simon and Randy (once again) argued that her voice had improved on the audition round.

Before we find out the result, Ryan asks: "But with just her voice stripped down, does she have enough to get through?"

As it turns out, Katrina did have enough, because she and the rest of her group was passed through to the next round.

Nonetheless, we see his Norman Gentle character take the stage in that same costume, red sweatbands and all. As he took the stage, he introduced himself with, "All right, time for some honesty. I'm here to have some fun. I'm Norman Gentle. I am 27 years old. I'm from Stratton, Vermont and I am gonna rock it." Norman then pulled out a pitch pipe and played it off-key.

Norman then broke into Jennifer Hudson's And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going, except he changed the lyrics to sing about himself and he gave a shout-out to the balcony and to Seacrest to sing along:

I'm the best man you'll ever know
there's no way I could ever, ever go
Darling there's no way
no no no no no no no
no way I'm living without you
BALCONY!
I don't want want to be free
SEACREST!
I'm staying. I am
I am staying
And you and you and you and please you
Please won't you love me

Randy started with, "So listen, this is the funny thing about you, man. You are hilarious, dude. You are like banoodles kind of a guy but you know what? You actually can sing. You've got some skills in there, dawg!"

Simon, of course, chimed in by saying that "without the glasses and the silly haircut, [he's] just a boring person" and that when he puts on the costume he's a "joke".

Paula said it would be interesting to hear Nick sing a song "all stripped down". With a guy like Nick, you know you can't get away with a comment like that without a stripping joke. So as Nick started unbuttoning his shirt, Paula quickly said, "No, I don't mean you strip. That's OK. Nick, Norman, Nick, Norman." She also noted that she would like to hear him sing without all the silliness.

We're not sure what Kara had to say about Nick, but it seems that at least Randy and Paula agreed to pass Nick onto the next round because he was accepted!

Offstage, Nick told Ryan that he was going to retire the costume on American Idol, so we'll see what happens.

Nick Mitchell, you've got the combination that Idle Idols has been waiting years for: A quality singing voice with a great, comical act!

This year, this site highlighted 38 Idle Idols in Season 8. Seven of these 38 contestants received a golden ticket and are headed to Hollywood!

Here's a quick recap of the contestants featured on Idle Idols who are headed to Hollywood:

• Katrina Darrell — Who could forget the bikini-clad contestant who sparred with Kara? Will she wear something revealing in Hollywood, and will her voice or her looks be enough to keep her from getting cut?
• Alex Wagner-Trugman — The mold-infested closet singer promised to become most popular in Abkazia, Zimbabwe, and Canada. But how about America?
• Michael Castro — Jason Castro's little brother started singing 20 days before his audition and was passed through to Hollywood.
• Tatiana Del Toro — The drama queen passed her press kit out and showed off her attitude.
• Joshua Ulloa — This catchy-but-gimmicky "Inspector Gadget" entertained the judges.
• Melinda Camille — This singer who enjoys dancing naked would get naked if all the judges did, too.
• Nick "Norman Gentle" Mitchell — One of the most entertaining auditions this year, Norman cracked wise and had the whole panel laughing with his routine, which included a joke about Simon and Seacrest getting it on.

Nick Mitchell, a.k.a. Norman Gentle, was dressed in a pretty crazy fashion: A bright red headband and matching wristbands, big glasses, a gaudy shirt, and khaki shorts. He ran into the audition room, jumped onto the stage, struck a pose, and shouted, "American Idol!"

Simon said that he didn't want Norman to be funny, but he just wanted Norman to be serious. Norman said, "OK then, it's done" and quickly transformed into Nick by removing the headband, wristbands, and glasses.

Nick sang Jennifer Hudson's And I Am Telling You in a serious manner, but certainly not up to Idol standards. Simon cracked a joke, thereby forcing Nick to revert back into Norman, and consequently kicking off the following banter:

Simon: Norman, you told me you weren't going to make this funny.
Norman: Oh! You hurt me where you get kicked sometimes. That was very hard!
Simon: I'd have thought you'd quite like that.
Norman: You mean the way you like it when Seacrest does it?
[All the judges yell "Whoa!"]
Norman: Whatcha say now, Simon?!?
Simon: That was funny! That was actually funny.

Simon said that Norman was becoming more likable, but that they weren't looking for "a ghastly cabaret comedy singer". Norman got a chair and did his best to belt out Amazing Grace. While he sang, Simon kept warning him not to pull faces, but Norman eventually slipped one in and Simon started yapping about his faces. Norman yelled in a shrill voice, "It's addictive!" and the judges started cracking up.

Paula said she loved him and Kara said it was the first time she had been entertained all day. Norman promised he wouldn't beg and then immediately screamed "[BLEEP] PLEASE!", and fell on the floor, prostrate. Paula gave Norman a "Yes" and Simon immediately retorted with "a categorical 'No'". Kara convinced Randy to give Norman a "Yes", so we'll be seeing him again in Hollywood!

Melinda feels like she has a message for the world: "Humanity is kind of taking a shift right now and I just want to be a part of it."

Melinda says she experiences happiness while she dances naked in her room. Simon suggested that this might be her method for sharing happiness with the world.

Kara asked Melinda if she wanted to be naked right then, and Melinda replied, "If you all were."

Simon suggested, "Why don't you imagine that Randy is naked?" and Melinda agreed.

Melinda sang Michael Buble's Feeling Good well enough to get passed through to Hollywood unanimously.

Joshua sang Marvin Gaye's Let's Get It On. He started out by singing the guitar, then by singing the song well, with a tiny bit of sound effects sprinkled throughout.

Simon admitted that Joshua sang well, but that he seemed like Inspector Gadget with all the little corny extras he through into his act. Randy said that "at least, it was entertaining."

After getting passed through to Hollywood unanimously, Joshua jumped up in the air, screamed a weird screamed, and ran out — walking into a tree as he looked back to thank the judges.

Tatiana is a Puerto Rican who is "a full time singer, and musician, a songwriter, writer, assistant director, model, film actor." She talked with her psychic friend, who told her that she would make it through to the top 12.

Tatiana also has an infectious laugh — not the kind that makes others laugh, but rather the kind of infectious like the Ebola virus.

She gave her press kit to the judges. Simon looked at one photo and commented that they were "quite naughty," and Tatiana promptly thanked him.

Tatiana belted out Aretha Franklin's I Never Loved a Man (The Way I Love You) for the judges. Simon told her that he thought she could "do a lot of things very well, but not singing." After that comment, Tatiana started singing Whitney Houston's I'm Your Baby Tonight. When Simon started to give her his advice, Tatiana put her hands up to her chest and gave him a look with attitude.

Simon started to accuse Tatiana of simply copying various R&B singers, but she interrupted him with a boisterous section of I Never Loved a Man again.

At this point the judges started arguing amongst themselves. Paula gave her a "yes" because she had a voice and was fun. Simon complained that she was too overdramatic. Randy admitted that Tatiana's voice wasn't strong enough, but then flipped and gave her a "yes" vote because she was wild. Kara didn't like her vocals either but liked her vibe, so Tatiana was passed through to Hollywood.

Hopefully Tatiana lasts long enough for us to see her trying to work with others in a group. Now that should be fun.

Michael is Jason Castro's brother. You remember Jason Castro from American Idol 7, the dreadlocked contestant who made it to the top 4.

When Paula asked Michael why he didn't audition for the previous season along with his brother he replied, "I didn't sing. I just started singing like 20 days before the auditions. I was like, 'If Jay can sing, I can sing, right?'"

Michael sang Gavin DeGraw's In Love with a Girl and he did well enough to get passed through to Hollywood. We'll see how he does once he stops being Jason Castro's brother and starts being Michael Castro.

Alex started by explaining that he taught himself to sing in his mold-infested closet which led to his getting sick and, as Simon put it, coming out of the closet. Alex also claimed that he would quickly gain popularity in Abkazia, Zimbabwe, and Canada.

Randy compared Alex to Joe Cocker, but Simon preferred "Cocker Spaniel". Alex noted, "That would be really funny, if it made any sense."

Alex sang James Ingram's Baby Come to Me a bit less mainstream but in pitch, and he won over Randy and Paula and got passed through to Hollywood.

You know her as "Bikini Girl". And for some of you, that's all you need to know.

Katrina sang Mariah Carey's Vision of Love and, understandably, got an immediate "Yes" from Simon with no further comments. Randy noted that she had potential and gave her a "Yes" vote as well.

Kara then started in: "OK, OK, honestly? And this isn't 'cause you're a beautiful girl and I don't want this to come across as, "Well, she was angry 'cause she's beautiful and young and thin," 'cause it's not. But — [sings a section of the same song] — There's no swing." Then Kara and Katrina started singing over each other and Katrina yelled that Kara's demonstration was no better. That got Paula and Kara going, particularly when Simon agreed. Despite the friction with Kara, Katrina got the approval to go on to Hollywood.

Based on her pre-audition promise to Ryan that she would kiss him after getting the golden ticket, she searched around until she found him by the pool. Ryan started talking and Katrina stole a kiss, leaving Ryan speechless for a few seconds.

It will be interesting to see what happens when "Bikini Girl" shows up fully clothed in Hollywood and has to compete based on her voice and not her figure.

The Idle Idol closest to making it to the final 24 was Kyle Ensley, who probably would have made it if they instead had a final 25.
